Hi,I just dropped my laptop battery, luckily the laptop wasn't attached to it.The battery looked perfect before but now it as a couple of dark spots and a long hairline crack around one of it's corner :( .It is a Li-Ion battery. Please check out the picture and tell me if its safe to use or try to use.Or should I put some scotch or duct tape on it even tho it looks bad.I don't want my laptop to explode on me when I try it out. Thanks alot.

The crack isnt going to affect the operation of the battery. The battery is made up of other sealed cells within the container. Nothings gonna leak out or anything. You should be fine.

Actually now that I think about it, you could have done some damage to the cells inside which could potentially be dangerous. I change my original opinion and think you should probably look at getting another.

Nah, that doesnt look like too much of a problem, unless you damaged the internals a little. If you have a multimeter give it a test to make sure the voltages and current are correct before running it in a laptop.

I would cautiously use it for the next while; if the battery doesn't heat up or leak any chemicals and functions normally, it should be OK to use. Do not use it on your lap while you observe it for the time being.

PS; batteries can explode quite violently... ;)

I wouldn't use it myself. Also, those dark spots have me worried. I'd much rather find out I was wrong about the battery being unsafe, than find out I was wrong about the battery being safe and causing damage to my laptop.

Man..I appreciate the inputs but over all ,its been not much help at all lol...btw the drop was about 3 feet or so..landed on top of a few pieces of paper on my wooded floor. That will teach me to keep my room clean.I'm kinda cheap and would rather not pay $50 to get another extended battery.I have another small battery but it only lasts after 1 hr.I think I'll take a chance and try it out right now.If anything funny happens..I'll try to take it out and toss it in my backyard immediately.I just saw this scary video on Li-Ion,check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeWq...14/the-stages-of-an-exploding-laptop-battery/

    Wish me luck....

monitor your battery's performance, like run high intensity programs without the power cord...see if it's not working.

i don't think it's a problem, but better safe than sorry

Ok I'm using my laptop with the said battery on my terrace right now.Everything seems to be in order. The battery life seems to read the same. The readings always jumps around like always.I'm still unsure how long this battery really can last.So can I assume that there probably wont be an issue if I try to plug it in and recharge it?? Thanks.
