I just ordered a HP HDX18T from the online website yesterday with these specs:I also bought the $500 QX9300 from the HP Part Store and I was wondering if I could just pop it in when I got the new laptop? I've read the forums and it seems like there needs to be another heatsink or something because the QX9300 is pretty big/hot. Where can I buy this? Remember, I'm trying to replace a new P8700 with a QX9300. I would research this myself if I could, but HP doesn't tell me the mobo/cpu for HDX18T. Please help! I am wondering now if it was a mistake in trying to save $150 and buying the QX9300 off the HP Parts Store instead of just buying the processor with the Laptop.

Yes, the QX9300 will work in your HDX18T. However, you will need to get the heatsink as you mentioned to properly cool the CPU.

I'm not sure about the HP, but I know my laptop uses the same heatsink for the dual cores as it does for the quad. It doesn't seem cost effective to use 2 seperate heatsinks for the same model laptop, but oh well.
Just browse the HP part store for you laptop model and search for heatsink. See if there's different ones that pop up. -
Don't know if this helps.

and maybe this from an early manual so yours may be different http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01705400.pdf,
And of course there is the warranty invalidation by replacing the processor so it might be a good idea to thoroughly test everything for a while before you go ahead. -
Well if it doesn't work she can put back the old processor and return the QX9300. This would only work if her processor doesn't fry her motherboard!
Is it possible for me to replace my Core 2 Duo P8700 with a Quad Core QX9300
