I just want to know if it is possible to change the processor of a laptop? I got a
Dell E1505 (Core Duo 2.0) and HP DV5000 (Core Duo 1.83) and want to interchange them. Is it also possible to interchange their video cards wich are ATI mobility radeon X1400 and nVidia go 7400 respectively?

you cannot change the video cards. you can change the cpus, but you will void your warranty, if you have one, in doing so....

sorry, but this would not be possible in your situation, and it rarely is in regards to switching a processor or graphics card.

why do you want to exchange cpu? for power? it would be wiser to maximize the ram instead. unless you are confident in opening your computer to change the cpu, don't. it is far easier to change hd and ram modules than cpu especially for those who have never experienced tinkering with notebook cpu's. not all notebooks are made and designed the same way. some notebooks because of design have readily accessible cpus, others are a little more tricky.

video graphic chips are often soldered to the notebook mb and are therefore none exchangeable and even if you'll find one that is, it is a little more complicated. desktop systems are a lot easier to fiddle and tweak, notebooks can be pretty nasty. but hopefully that would soon change as they project the barebone notebooks and design it yourself laptops would catch up and attract a good number of enthusiasts. meanwhile, if you want a good upgrading for your current notebook maximize ram in the speed that your machine is capable of handling, and get a hard drive with the highest speed (rpm) that your system can handle. other than that any attempt for upgrading is very risky.

well its not always possible to change cpu's because some manufacturers solder them in but generally it is possible to switch a cpu for another of the same type ie core duo-core duo not core duo-pentium M.

ok. thank you very much for your all your help. I just want to swap those hardwares because the DV5000 looks very very good and I want to upgrade its specs. In the case of the warranty, I think they are as good as void because they will be used here in the philippines and I can't afford sending it back to the US and getting it back here for the warranty since it will be more costly to do that.

    * if by any chance you know someone who did this "unusual" upgrade, please let me know. Thanks.
