I was wondering if there was a way to configure my Vostro 1500 to charge the battery only when I tell it to. For example, if my battery has 92% battery life left and I plug the notebook into AC, I would like for it not to charge the battery. Is this possible?
Thanks,
Mike

As far as I know, there is no such option, whether software or hardware.
There was another thread on here asking the same thing, and it ended with no answer for that inquiry. -
You can stop your battery from charging.
1. Hook up your laptop to the ac-adapter.
2. Remove battery.
3. Remember to reinsert battery before you unplug your laptop.
But seriously, Li-on batteries are smart. They automatically stop charging at 100% -
Obviously, but why waste a charge and degrade your battery faster? Rechargeable batteries degrade the more often they have been recharged so I would like to minimize the amount of times I recharge it. On a side note, is it smart to use a notebook running on AC in a public place with its battery out? I would hate to have the notebook suddenly shut down because the power cord came out by accident.

It's all about compromising. Either it's convenience or a longer battery life. Read the Battery Guide for more.
Is it possible to control when a battery charges?
