So, I plan to get an SSD intel x-25 soon, with that being said I will be removing my 250GB sata 5400rpm drive from my laptop.
Can I convert this drive into an external usb drive, like by putting it on a hdd enclosure and sata to usb converter? Is this possible?

Yep easily doable, i have a nice rocketfish aluminum case that i use. Not only does it let me diagnose other peoples hard drives, but i can keep a 750GB drive in there for storage room for things that dont fit on my internal drives that i travel with

Thank you guys for the info.

Most enclosures on the market will have SATA to usb built in. Don't waste your money on a converter; you won't need one.

You guys answered my next question before I had a chance to ask it.

Guys, I already ordered a cheap hdd 2.5 sata usb 2.0 enclosure on ebay.
It's only 5.69$ with free shipping from a high rated seller. This is the link to the item. USB 2.0 2.5 HARD DRIVE SATA HDD HD ENCLOSURE CADDY Case - eBay (item 250435360944 end time Jul-25-10 09:26:01 PDT) -
That looks good, pretty good price too

I paid a little bit more for mine and got the Nexstar 3 when I needed an external enclosure. It's worked really well over the past two years.
Is it possible to convert your laptop hdd into usb external one.
