I have a laptop but I want to get a new processor. I hear a lot that you can't change the graphic cards in laptops but I don't know if this applies to processors.
So can anyone tell me if its possible I could add a new processor?
I have a Dell Vostro 1500.
-Thanks

Yes, you can replace your CPU. Download CPU-Z and find what you have first.

most probably 965 chipset and your laptop supports Socket P processors... T9300 is the best price to performance CPU... altough T8000 series will work and so will some of the 7000 series but the T9000 series will give best performance...

I have an intel core 2 duo 2.0 Ghz
I'm looking for a 2.4 ghz+
I'm running XP if they helps at all.
Thanks for the replys -
What programs are you using that requires more CPU power? What is your budget to upgrade?

I have an 8600 Geforce so my graphics card surpasses most min req. on games.
My current processor is a Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T7250
My motherboard is Dell brand. Model number 0WY041 if that helps.
My budget is unknown right now so Ill take multiple options and them sort them out. -

T8300, T9300, T9500 would all be really great.
T9300 would be my choice, best bang for buck. -

If need more graphics speed, consider a DIY ViDock + overclocking your system. A HD5770 gets 3dmark06 > 10k. See sig if interested.

@moral hazard- I'm so far looking at the T9300
@nando4- I'm not really looking at overclocking my system...I run games most games fine...I just need a little more processing speed -
T9500 is your best choice but T9300 which is slightly lower clocked is cheaper and more worth it so get T9300.. Also DIY Vidock is a good option if you want to increase GPU power and is very cheap!!

I don't think a better cpu will give better performance in games.. A 8600 isn't really great, and a 2.0ghz duo should be enough.
The recommended/minimum system requirements usually are for a certain cpu architecture (ex. pentium P4 3.0ghz) and you need to see the difference between your duo and a p4.. even at 1.6ghz the duo will give better performance and be enough for the game requirements. Don't just look at the speed. And for the gpu requirements, it will state a desktop gpu most of the time, so don't think your 8600 is the same as a desktop 8600. The mobile version is less powerful.
So bottomline, I really think your gpu will be the first one to show signs of weaknessThe vidock Sean473 mentionned is a good thing to consider.
But of course, if you still want to upgrade the cpu, a T9300 would be a great improvement over your current cpu and be worth it for running lots of stuff or maybe even some games. -
Im looking at the vidock options. The only problem I see with it so far is that according to the vidock website, it is only for windows 7. I have windows xp so I dont know if the vidock option is possible.
EDIT: Ok I found the PE4L version...and it works on xp and its much cheaper. Ill look more into that. -
get thr DIY Vidock... there's a post on the forum showing how to get it...
Is it possible to put in a new processor on my laptop?
