Is it possible to set up an external hard drive to automatically sync with My Documents?

Title says it all really. I have just bought a laptop and external HDD, I was hoping there would be some software which would allow me to either schedule or manually trigger a synchronisation which will back up my “My Documents” folder onto the hard drive.

    Is this possible?

    Thanks

    Yes, there are several options.

One is a backup utility...my favorite is Acronis True Image.
The other option is for XP only...SyncToy. It is a power toy straight from MS that also does what you need.

Both can do scheduled backups and the like, but ATI is more powerful (compression, password access to backups, etc).

I am trying out the software called goodsynch, which appears to be free. Have not played with it yet, but it looks very very promising and the price is right for the FREE version. http://www.goodsync.com/

SyncBack is awesome. I use it and it is configurable to do whatever you want & will backup whatever you want to where ever you want. Great program

Just a quick update, I have been using SyncBack and think it is awesome. Highly recommended to anyone else who is after a synching/backup tool.
