I wonder whether you think it's safe to leave a WD Passport on 24/7. Thanks in advance.

What could be bad about it? It's only going to spin up when you access something on it.

Well Throat Wobbler Mangrove, I'd say it can't hurt anything to leave it on, except of course for the minor power consumption.

It should be fine if it is somewhere where any heat is dissipated by convection / radiation. It should then stay cooler than an internal HDD. I wouldn't let it get buried under a pile of paper. I'm not sure if it would power down or keep spinning continuously. The latter would use about 1 Watt while reading / writing would be around 3 Watts.

    Thanks for all the responses.

That's how my name is pronounced, it isn't supposed to appear in print. In fact, I don't even know what you're talking about. Do not vex me any further on this matter, or I shall call my buddy Dinsdale.

That's what I'm worried about mostly; so, how can I make sure? Anyone have a definite idea?

Make sure you disable "Drive Indexing" and maybe auto defrag
