Is it true that the Samsung SM841 is an OEM version of the 840 pro.

The PM841 is not SLC based.

It is an mSATA OEM SSD that is not sold in retail channels to end users.

    See:
Samsung PM841 512GB mSATA SSD Review - Performance and Capacity in a Client SSD | The SSD Review

While the read speeds are competitive, the write speeds suck (which indicates to me that this is not a top end SSD - but rather quite like the TLC line Samsung is trying to push down consumers throats).

While this 'performance' is fine for mSATA standards - it is nowhere close to a standard 2.5" SSD (with fully populated nand channels/better firmware/etc.).

Keep in mind that these models also have no warranty outside of the machine they were installed in originally (through the notebook manufacturer, not Samsung).

So, for $330USD, you can find yourself a great bargain, or, be stuck with a very expensive book marker.

Myself? I would not be buying this model knowing the above.

    Good luck.

    I read SM841 ?

Somehow the topic went to PM841.

Even if it is 840 pro indeed , personally wont risk it, if it is a 128gb/256gb , maybe.
330 is too much for a "low risk" gamble imo, keep in mind no warranty what so ever.

    baii, good catch! Lol...

The only thing I find for SM841 are ebay listings that are:

"tested and 100% working... Original Packaging and never opened..." items.

ebay... such a waste of time.

It depends on the individual mind set I guess. Modern SSD have pretty low failure rate as far as I can tell, it just that $330 is not a great deal factor in no warranty. I actually brought a sm841 128gb (ebay)for 70 few weeks ago.

    512gb 840 pro had been on sale for 400ish so 400-330/330 = ~21% discount

    128gb ~ 110 so 110-70/70 = ~57%

Personally I wouldn't bother consider buying any of Samsungs OEM SSD's SM841 (7mm) and PM841 (mSATA) included.

Sure you're getting a great deal for a potentially good SSD but warranty is dealt buy the seller of these OEM drives if any and Samsung Magician does not fully work for these OEM SSD's which means no firmware updates, no on demand garbage data collection (SSD optimize) and most all of none support or warranty provided by manufacturer Samsung themselves.

I've done lots of research at one point into buying a 256GB Samsung PM841 (mSATA) but when it all came down the no support and warranty from Samsung coupled but no firmware updates made me loose interest fast.

I'd rather spend a bit more money on a retail consumer based SSD knowing that the SSD has full support and warranty from it's manufacturer and that bugs, fixes and incompatibility problems can be ironed out via firmware updates.

lol, what math is that... 400-330/330 = 399
    (400-330)/400 = 17.5% discount
    (110-70)/110 = 36,4% discount
