Yes, or no?
And do you defrag it or not?
-
I do defrag my external HDD using Norton's speeddisk. Made a huge difference in loading times for NWN when running off a USB1.0 interface.
-
I'd say no if you're just using it to store stuff.
Yes if you actually run programs from it and load times matter.
That's my approach. -
i had a 120gb harddisk for my weekly backup. defrag it once every 2-3 months to bring up back to speed and cut down the defragmentation.

Let's just say, it won't hurt it. So might as well give it a try.

I can not believe the answers you received to your question!! It will only help you to defragment your external drives! The fact that some don't think it matters very much concerns me! It is what it is, DEFRAG!
-
Just to be clear, fragmentation, fragment, and fragmenting are all forms of a bad thing. The program is called a defragmenter because it reduces the fragmentation. Same concept as a defibrillator, when a heart is fibrillating, it's a bad thing. The defibrillator stops the fibrillating. Merely syntax, but worth knowing
Edit: I haven't defragged my external yet, but I really should. I just never remember to. I don't know how much of a benefit you'll see realistically, but for something like an external drive, I don't see much reason to not defrag every so often.
Is it worth it to defrag my External Hard Drive?
