Yes, it's almost always worth it when you have 512mb, you will benefit from the upgrade. I went from 1.25gb to 2gb and I can notice a speed difference.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
You should probably just buy a single 1GB stick. That should be more than enough for XP and it'll be decent if you ever go to Vista. Dual channeling will be adversely affected, but it's not that significant a performance loss.

do u guys mean i should stick to my pentium m?

I think the guys misunderstood the thread, as did I at first. I think you should get the notebook.

Oh. Yeah, I misread it.
Well, put it this way. If your old laptop is sufficient for what you're doing, there's no reason to upgrade or buy a new machine.
If it's not, the other machine is a much better deal because the price/performance gain ratio will be much greater than giving your old machine some extra RAM and a new battery. The extra RAM and battery (with shipping) could potentially cost nearly half as much as the Vostro.
EDIT: And holy cow that Vostro is cheap! -

haha the 600 sgd i put in is excluding the money i gain frm selling my old laptop
i was given a price range of 400 sgd......and the vostro costs 900++ sgd...u do the conversion...
the ram and battery added up wud be abt 185 dollars if add anotehr 512mb for my current...ie i get 768mb of ram...
that wud be one third of the price i need to fork out to get a new one..
1/3....im prob better off getting a new one? or am i not?
*the 400 bucks is an estimate, i have yet to bring it down for a review.
Is it worth it to upgrade ram for my specs?
