Hi all,
I have an option of upgrading my laptop from P8600(2.4GHz, 3MB) to T9550(2.66GHz, 6MB), and it will cost me $260. I want to know if the upgrade is worth the performance gain that I get?
I also want to know that: on a scale from 1(never upgrade to that) to 10(do it now), what rank will you give to the upgrade?
Have a nice day!
Thanks

I'd say it would not make that much of a big difference, though the extra cache might speed up games and demanding apps. The price is quite steep though, do you get to keep the old processor or is it a trade in?

The performance boost isn't worth $260- I give it a 1/10!
My personal laptop has a 2.4GHz P8600 and my work laptop has a 2.53GHz P9500 (same as the T9500) and there's no noticeable difference.
The P-series processors also have a 25W TDP (compared to 35W on the T9xxx-series). That means that they run a bit cooler under heavy load and use slightly less power (battery). -
Even if the price difference was ZERO, I'd take the P processor because of the lower heat and battery drain.

I don't think it's worth BC you won't notice almost any difference. In gaming this would mean gaining 1-3 FPS. If.
If money is not a big issue, go for it, but nevertheless, I would give 3/10. -
Thanks to all for their suggestions,
I've decided not to go for the upgrade. -
Is it worth it? It fully depends on what you are doing with your laptop.
If you run CPU dependent applications you'll see a 10 to 20% performance boost. -
Its not worth it. You'll yield more performance gains, if you buy a SSD drive.
Something like Intel's 80GB X25-m costs $315 relatively, and that will give you noticable difference, as oppose to marginal difference. -
IMO, DEFINITELY NOT worth it at all!!! You can always upgrade your CPU later. OEMs always overcharge for upgrades like that. Performance per dollar is waaaay out of proportion. Do yourself a favor and avoid it. You won't even notice the performance diff.

I would do the upgrade. Definitely not worth the price.
Is it worth the price?
