Is my RAM running at max speed?

In my Fujitsu La1703 I have 2 x 1GB sticks of PC-5300 DDR2. It says on just about every website I've visited that the RAM speed is 667MHz...

Though when I check CPU-Z I get this...

It says 333MHz. So does that mean that my RAM is running at half speed? I don't understand.. if that's so what is making my RAM so slow..?

Also, is there any way to upgrade the amount of RAM my laptop can use? It says online that the max supported for my laptop is 2GB but I know lots of laptops can exceed that amount despite what their max supported RAM is.

EDIT: Nvm I read this lol: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-compaq/212380-ram-only-running-333mhz.html

So still one question.. any way to get more than 2GB of RAM on my laptop?

To elaborate on this, the double data rate means that you can twice the amount of data than SDR RAM could per clock cycles. 333MHz DDR is like 667MHz SDR (~333x2) which is the advertised clock speed. Hope that clarifies things a bit more.

EDIT: You have to check what is the max supported amount of RAM for your laptop. Technically, you could swap for in 2x2GB RAM for a total of 4GB (you'll need a 64-bit OS to actually use all 4GBs). That won't do squat if your particular laptop model doesn't support over 2GB RAM.

I don't think your processor could handle (in a 'balanced' kind of way) additional RAM? Curious what O/S you're running too?

    See:

If that is indeed your cpu.

Smart Phones have more processing power than that processor today.

I would not recommend any upgrades to this system. A new platform/computer is the wisest move if you want the most bang for your buck.

:D Waaaaayy ahead of you guys:

Already upgraded for about $18 online.

Max listed supported ram is 2GB. I have 2 slots. I was thinking about trying a 2GB stick and a 1GB stick. Even the extra gig would be really helpful.

Running Vista currently. No intention to change. I've had problems trying to install Xp because of the lack of SATA drivers and no ability to change to IDE mode in my BIOS. But that's ok and it's not the point.

I know that I couldn't use all 4GB running on a 32bit OS. It seems pointless to run 1 full stick of 2GB and then just 1.2GB on the next stick.

So what do you guys think? Could I get away with buying a 2GB stick and then using one of my 1GB sticks for 3GB?

    Hi,

There's no mistake in the software you are using, it shows the speed of 1 memory stick. You're working with 2 sticks and reaching 667gHz.
Regarding the 2gb limit - windows automatically generates a memory page file that can increase your memory limit by writhing the memory to a file on your hard drive.

Somehow I don't think that has anything to do with the limit proposed by my BIOS...

some times down grading to xp os problem but, upgrading to 7 is usually much easier unless you have older integrated intel graphics. 7 uses gobs less ram and is more reliable and speedier.

Please disregard this post, everything above it is true.

2GB max is a BIOS limit, FA notebooks have this, I don't know why.

I know for sure it has to do with the MAX TOLUD setting, there was another member on NBR that had the same issue. I'm afraid though, because it's an older notebook, you'll need to find an older program to mod it.

Do you think it's pure bios thing or maybe it has some weird cheap memory controller? I would think in this day in age it isn't an issue with the controller.
