Hi ! I bought two weeks ago a computer with a crucial M4 512GB. Last night, my computer suddenly started freezing really hard and 20 secs later, the screen turned black. Nothing could fix that, so I rebooted it using the power button. Since then, the ssd is no longer detected in the BIOS. The other components are OK (even the other HDD) so it seems to be purely the SSD, as the SATA bay has no reason to have been working perfectly for 2 weeks and all of a sudden crash - where as this is to be more expected of an SSD. So am I good to return the SSD, or may there be a fix ?
Solid State Drives (SSD) - Crucial Community Apparently I'm not the only one having this issue, but the people who seem to have found a (often temporary) fix are those who used the power cycle method, ie
Having a laptop this is not an option.
Now why am I not RMAing directly : I want to be able to use the computer for the christmas break. I'll be nearly the only person in my univ rez and I'm not going home back to my country, so my laptop was supposed to be both the link between me and my family & friends and a way not to feel too lonely (oh god I'm making it sound terrible when in fact I would have been gaming like there is no tomorrow). Secondly, my laptop retailer was very nice and included a 512 gb ssd instead of the 256 one I asked for. But now this is a problem since this is not appearing on the receipt. I asked them to update the receipt; I hope they'll do it... (and yeah, I'm starting to wonder too if the 512 gb ssd was really a gift of a refurb or whatever ! :p). Thanks !

Edit : If that means anything, when the ssd was still working I had noticed it wasn't displayed in HWinfo64 contrary to the hdd. Also I don't know if it's a good idea, but I never run the laptop on battery (to save it), and when I turn it off, I also unplug the AC, so my laptops are always off of any power source when I'm not using them.

Trying to leave the laptop on the BIOS (F2 setup menu) as recommended by Meaker. Thanks ! (By the way it's written SATA 0 port : not present for now)

Meaker's solution worked. I wonder if there is a way to prevent it from happening again.

*flexes problem solving muscles* of course it did :p

It seems to be an issue with the current set of firmware, keep an eye out for any updates.

Yeah downloaded it but on Crucial's forum some people were having the issue on the 040H. I guess it's just bad luck...
