Hey guys, I have a MT3423 Gateway laptop that I've been using for the past two years. It has been flawless and hasn't given me trouble until now.

The other day it crashed (and the screen turned black.) I tried powering it off and turning it back on, which didn't work. I took out the battery and then put it back in. To my surprise, it worked and my laptop turned on. It ran for a few hours before it crashed again and I received a black screen. That night, I managed to get the laptop running again and left it on over night (and it stayed on overnight without any problems.)

I researched the problem and people said it had something to do with the motherboard dying or something.

My question is -- if my motherboard was dying or had died, why was I able to run my laptop still? (Note that I was playing games and watching movies on it too.)

Is my battery the problem or is my motherboard the problem?

Your motherboard is most probably damaged... not ur GPU as u wouldn't see anyrhing if the GPU was not working.... there might have been a electrical surge which might have caused ur comp to crash....

The motherboard has a small battery inside. Do you think that would cause this?
