Ok, i just brought a brand new Freecom 3'5 external harddrive 500gb. I read a few articles about hard drive failure and the clicking noise. I am scared because whenever i turn on or turn off the harddrive (with the power button at the back), it makes a single clicking noise (the sound is almost like the clock ticking noise) and then i can immediately tell that the hard drive platter is spinning. It makes this noise when i turn it off to. So is this the failure noise or is this normal?
Thanks

No thats fine, its just parking the heads before you shut it off

What flipfire says is right (just check his rep lol)
Every hard drive makes such noises when they spin up or spin down. -
yes, that is completely normal. every hard drive does that when turning it self on/off.
what the harddrive is doing is that it is "parking" its head to a safe location in the harddrive. some (advance) harddrive park it in a ramp, some (most) park itself in the safe sector of the disk.
Is my hard drive failing?
