    Hi,
I recently bought HP dv6-1353cl laptop with T6600 processor, 4500MHD IGP and 320GB 7200 HD. This is a refurbished laptop. Though, i am not actively looking for a laptop and wanted to avoid HP, grabbed one considering the price ($300 plus tax). I am planning to replace my old laptop (dv6500z with Turion tl-60 and 8400M GS). My old laptop is running into some shutdown issues once in a while. Looks like it is over heating issue. I am planning to do some maintenance (cleaning vents, undervolting and underclocking processor) and pass it onto other family members down the line.

I need this laptop for basic tasks for family members. My kid will be playing simple games designed related to education ( 4 - 8 years). May be ,we will play plants vs zombies sort of games. Though never tried serious gaming, if needed i got a Xbox arcade.

I am still not decided considering all the new laptops are coming with core i processors with improved IGP solution. I am worried that this new systems is antiquated. Is it good idea to return this laptop, save the money and get the basic i330 configuration down the line. Please help.

what worries you about the machine? it works, it does what you need, and it's paid for. Run it until it breaks and buy another one for the same price in 2 or 3 years.

Although your new laptop is far from being state-of-the-art, it's equally as far from being antiquated. For one you have a sufficient amount of HD space and a 7200 RPM drive.

In addition, the processor is more than enough to handle virtually any task within the normal range, and it's practical and usable for everything that you named. This is well above you would get with any comparably priced netbook. From what I see, it's a good deal. I'd keep it!

You're fine, $300 for that era is a good deal. An i3 will serve you no better considering what you are doing.

Everything you list, this laptop is capable of doing. You could get something more powerful, but you don't need it ta the moment, and you picked up a decent spec laptop at a netbook price.

Should have no problems with Plants vs Zombies. :)
It runs good on a single core Celeron at 2 GHz and Intel GMA 4500m.
(The cheaper and less powerful IGP than the GMA 4500mhd)

Thanks for all the feedback. I have checked the laptop. Liked the build quality. Though it got espresso glassy finish, it is subdued. Back side is redesigned compared to my old laptop. It should help more air to flow inside the system and alleviate the heat problem. My family also liked the fit and finish of the product.

Most intensive task will be downloading and converting family videos (Cam to mpeg), writing them and photos to DVD's and converting movies for Ipod. Few minutes here and there, should not be a issue. Most of the times, we ourselves occupied with doing multi tasking. Looks like, this one is missing firewire port.

Just get this one.. should be more than enough... i used to do all this on a pentium 4 desktop so this should be enough.. its outdated anyways but u can easily do all ur tasks for 2-3 years.
