Hi there!
I just upgraded the RAM of my laptop myself (first time ever), but now I'm a tiny little bit worried whether or not I did everything correctly. (I know I better wondered about that before actually doing the upgrade!)
I just Googled a bit and can confirm I put the RAM in in a degree of about 30 degrees and then 'clicked' it into place. The only thing I'm worried about is whether or not it's possible that I put the RAM in there upside down? Both sides looked so similar!
My notebook is currently working all fine, and windows vista recognizes the full 4GB RAM that is in there now. Does that by definition mean the RAM thing is inserted correctly??
Thanks.
edit; Q2. I took two little stickers off (one said something like 'warranty void if removed'). I assumed I definitely had to take it off because oterwise the stickers might catch fire sometime in the future if the RAM would get really hot. Well thought or should I have left the stickers in place?

It only goes in in a certain way.

ddr2 sodimms can only be inserted one way due to the 'gap' seperating the connectors:
-
See that gap by the pins, RAM only goes in one way.
SODIMM temps barely top 40*C....Stickers won't burn. Re-apply them if they are related to warranty. -

And umm, your system wouldn't recognize an 'upside down' RAM anyway
BE happy with the 4gb you DID IT! its WORKING!
And err if the stickers had 'potential' to even get hot, they wouldn't place em on there - dontcha think?
You'e TOO paranoid!! relax you did it! you upgrade your RAM! Congrats!! -
The stickers are there and says the thing it does because it's not gonna be missread and removed if you don't wanna void the warranty
But stick them back on if you can, or else you've learned not to do it in the future hehe. RAM is cheap today so it is a "cheap" misstake anyways if you can't.

They ram sticks are pretty idiot-proof as they only go in one way. If vista recognizes the ram then your good. Also you dont need to remove the stickers. The chances of them catching on fire is extremely slim.
-
If it works, leave it.
If you mess up something installing RAM - you should never use a computer ever again. -
-
Its possible, but you will have to really force it and surely break something to do it.
-
Don't peel off the stickers - you'll void your warranty.

you can actually put memory in backwards. I have done so before, and destroyed some memory. Its really hard to know which way it is supposed to go in, when you are working on desktops from the 1980's like I do. They dont have memory cards, they have external memory cards which you can physically change the memory of. It takes a lot to figure it out, cause most of the memory DIP's all look the same, and they are oriented differently on the motherboard.
Most modern memory cards are keyed so they can only go in one way.

Is putting RAM 'upside down' possible??
