I own a Pentium M 1.5 Banias 1 mb 0.13nm want to change to pentium 1.8dothan 2mb 0.09nm is that worth it or only really little perfome gain cos what i know it can put down the voltage more than Banias like 0.700 running in 600 hz

before thinking of the upgrade are you sure the BIOS is capable of supporting the Dothan. Most Banias to Dothan upgrades need BIOS support without which the Dothan is most probably going to be stuck at the lowest multiplier or you might have other issues.

If the BIOS does support the Dothan, then upgrading to the 1.8GHz should give you a good performance boost actually and are good undervolters as well.

It doesn't seem very cost-efficient. I would imagine, if you're going to upgrade a CPU in a laptop, your best bet is a heftier upgrade.

Why not do a pinmod with your PM 1.5 Banias. With the pinmod your CPU would be running at 533FSB and would be doing 1.99ghz. Or you could just upgrade to a 2ghz Banias.

For general usage it won't be worth it. I upgraded a Dell 600m from a 1.3GHz Banias to a 1.8GHz Dothan and saw zero performance improvements in everyday usage. The previous upgrades, more ram and newer HD, had a much greater impact on performance.

Any notebook using Banias will be on the older 855 chipset so pin modding doesn't work, and there's no 2GHz Banias, they only went up to 1.7GHz before Dothan came out.

I'm going to have to agree with lazybum131; faster HDD and more ram.

Well I guess all things considered that's one upgrade path you've got left. Truth is though I don't know if you'd get enough improvement buying a slightly faster processor. Certainly if you can get one for a good price, get it.
