    I currently have a Toshiba Satalite A-35 with a Intel Celeron 2.7 Ghz processor and 512 mb of ram and I am looking to upgrade to a new laptop. What I have in mind is an HP 5000t with an Intel Duo processor T2250 (1.73 GHz) and 1g of ram. Is this a signifigant upgrade? Am I going to notice a big difference in performance? I dont use the computer for any gaming, but run a small business on it and do play with alot of music and digitla photos.

    the celeron based chips are "buget" chips, they are good for home use, home business, etc.

    the duo can/is more/less a business class notebook chip, and as you probably noticed, there is a large price difference too

    if all you are doing is listening to music and look at photes, and running a business, then i would not bother upgrading i use my Cel M for video encoding... that's 1.5 ghz you have 2.7 you have enought for what you need... unless you want to upgrade then go for it!!!

    Yuio - Your Celeron M is probably equal in performance to the 2.7ghz Desktop celeron.

    Sallypants - An upgrade to a Core Duo would be a considerable upgrade. You would notice it in everything.

    I don't think You would see much difference in current applications from the Satelite to the HP. The memory increase itself will do much to Windows alone, less swaping etc. Ofcourse the Duo core would be faster and for what its worth more futuresafe. But for the apps You use, don't expect any real performance difference.

    Buy 512 mb more for Your current Laptop :)

    I went from a Celeron (not M or D) 2.8GHz, 256MB RAM and integrated GPU --->
    Core Duo 1.67GHZ, 1GB RAM and dedicated GPU and let me tell you,

    IT IS A HUGE LEAP IN PERFORMACE!

    I cant believe i used that crappy system for so long. You will notice the speed in everything from media player responding without any lag to word opening almost instantly. It feels awsome having a fast system. The upgrade is worth every penny.
