Watching a dvd while browsing the web + msn messenger? l have a Athlon 64 3200+ in my desktop and when i'm watching a R.A.T.M concert dvd and browsing the web the video and audio from the dvd skips for a split second whenever l load a webpage. My cpu utilization is usually around 90%+ whenever l load a webpage when watching a dvd.
Can the core duo 1.66ghz somewhat eliminate this w/1gb ram? (My desktop also has 1gb)

Yeah, that processor better be able to handle that. I have been able to watch and pause live TV (more intensive than a DVD), while running two monitors, surfing the internet, chatting, and running a backup, with a host of devices and services running. I have the 1.66Ghz dual core with 1 GB Ram, so, you should be ok.

Sounds good, l may be getting one of the following but im not quite sure which one yet:
E1405
XPS M1210
Macbook 13" -
If you are looking to find your perfect laptop, post on the "What should i buy" board and fill out the FAQ at the top of the page...
There are more brands than just Dell and Apple -
Yeah l know but the rest l'm not really interested in. HP has left a sour taste in my mouth, l don't really like any of Gateway's laptops, Asus is nice but in the 14" and smaller range the price is a bit higher then the others. -
If you want value, that macbook is certainly not the right notebook to get...
Have you looked at Z62j? Its asus but it is only about $1100 with a Ge7300.
EDIT: you'll have to wait a little for the Z62j since its not out yet -
The new macbook should be around the same price as the current ibooks. -

The Core Duo is made for your kind of multi-tasking. Get the fastest Core Duo you can afford. I also suggest getting just one stick of 1024MB RAM, leaving the other slot open for future upgrades.

go for the e1405, and the core duo will be plenty, i have a movie running, f@h, internet, word, and solitaire up and it you cant even tell.
Is the T2300 enough for..
