Is their a way to underclock (to save battery life) but have it overclock back to normal when needed?

Your future computer will w/"Speed Step" also lowers heat I believe
-
The Core 2 Duo's step down to a lower speed whenever you stop using them, and then step up again when you need it.
I believe yours goes down to 1GH'z when not being used very much.
Also, if you have vista you can change you power settings. Have a power config for normal use that limits your max CPU speed to 70% or something. Then having a gaming config that has max CPU at 100%. Then you just need to change your power settings before you start playing. -
ok thanks for the help guys

You can also do it manually with RMClock or NHC...It's almost sure you can get your CPU to work using less power than factory settings.
If you can run stable at a certain speed with lower voltage you will be producing less heat and saving battery.
Both RMCLock and NHC have Performance on Demand profiles that will automatically adjust CPU clock and voltage depending on CPU usage. For CPU intensive tasks it will go up in clock and then down when idle.
It will require some work but it will fit better. -
With NHC, I clock my notebook to less than 500mhz on battery, but keep it on full while on battery (when I game)

wait is he talkinga bout GPU or CPU... either way both is accomplisable

Is their a way to Underclock but have it normal clock again if gaming or if needed?
