Well there is definitely a performance difference, the Core Duo is much better at multi-tasking and overall faster. Will you notice Internet Explorer opening faster with Core Duo? No. Will you notice PhotoShop working better with Core Duo? Absolutely. I'd say the Core Duo is about 10% - 20% faster in raw processor numbers but if you get into stuff that requires multi-threading it's much faster. However, if you just use a notebook for very basic stuff like web surfing and Word, then a Core Solo is just fine.

    ^^^^Exactly what he said^^^^^

Added with Alot of RAM makes things run smoothly. A good rpm HD won't hurt either. (I plan on getting a tleast a 7200rpm)

I have yet to have my laptop freeze-up on me. ONLY I.E 7 freezes up somtimes, but thats a I.E problem.

If you don't use multithreaded programs, there's no significant difference. (A ual core CPU might be 1-2% faster because it can offload background processes to the second core, but the difference isn't bigger than that).

If the app you're running can take advantage of dualcore chips though, you'll see maybe 80% better performance.

The difference in the performance is significant, but the difference in the price is not...

So, I woudn't recommend buying Core Solo even if don't use the Duo advantage...
