Is there any possible way to get a Quadro 3800m into a Dell Precision m6400 ?

    Hi,

This is probably a stupid question. I don't know anything about the actual, physical differences between a Quadro 3800m and the 3700m which is currently in my Dell Precision m6400 laptop. Nonetheless I would like to know if there is any possible way of upgrading to the 3800 ? Up to and including using soldering irons, blowtorches, chainsaws and dynamite.

    Thanks for your insights.

Here are some detailed specs for you to pore over:

    Quadro FX 3700M

    Quadro FX 3800M

    Basically, they're the same form factor, but the 3800m requires 100 W v.s. the 3700m at 75 W.

    Hey thanks !

Huh, so basically the heatsink isn't going to keep up and I'd end up frying it. A little comparative study of the Service Manuals from the 6400 and 6500 ( ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-prod...bile/precision-m6400_Service Manual_en-us.pdf ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-prod...bile/precision-m6500_service manual_en-us.pdf ) does seem to show that the 6500 has an extra heatpipe going to the left side vent. Can the whole heatsink assembly from the 6500 be shoehorned into a 6400 ? Or am I going to end up with a 10lbs flaming brick ?

Ah well since it's a Dell and we don't deal in Dells, I'm not as well versed with them, so I don't want to touch that with a ten foot pole. :p And my personal experience with Dell laptops is fairly limited. Sorry! Good luck!
