In a laptop that was originally spec'd out with an ATI 9600? Both cards have 128MB.

I'm being told that it won't after initially being told that it would and frankly I can't fathom any reason why it wouldn't. Can anybody please explain why it would or wouldn't work?

    Thanks in advance.

Frequently laptops have them built in the the motherboards and bios and do not make them upgradeable.

Thanks but I understand that, but I still have the question - is there any reason why it wouldn't work?

Yes, the manufacturer has to support it. IF they offer the 9700 in the machine you got, you should be able to upgrade.

But if they don't offer it does that mean that the motherboard won't support it? I know it's soldered in but I'm not worried about that. I just can't understand why a motherboard would be able to handle the 9600 but not the 9700...

    Thanks again in advance
