    Nope its different.

Notebook ram are So-Dimms, Desktop's are Dimms.

    In your case, I think 400mhz So-Dimms, I think...

    I know Pentium M's used 533mhz DDR2....

Best if you check crucial's site and tester to see what it actually is

btw: you live near Pmall?

As coriolis said, laptop and desktop RAM are not the same. Infact there are many different types of RAM. If you are curious - take a look at the link blow it lists the various types of memory available...
    http://www.crucial.com/library/memorymodid.asp

Crucial, Kingston and many manufacturers have memory configurators on their websites. They should list the memory type that will work with the Acer Ferrari.

The Ferrari probably takes a 200 pin DDR SODIMM(max of 400MHz).

What would happen if I put in 2 sticks of 533 MHz (PC4200), or DDR2?

Wont work. DDR2 and DDR are NOT interchangable even though they have the same pin count, the pin configurations are different.

In addition, their power consumption is different too. DDR2 uses less energy than DDR RAM if I recall correctly.
