Hi guys/girls. I've been reading the forum for awhile but just decided to register with a question for ya....

I have an Asus G50vt-x5. I want to upgrade the cpu to a t9600. I know it will run a little hotter being an additional 10w's. I bought a chip off ebay but after reading a couple of your threads i'm a little worried about the seller trying to pawn a ES chip of as a OEM chip.

So I was wondering If you guys could check it out and tell me what you think..

It is engineering sample indeed. Though i wouldnt really worry about it since the stepping is the same as retail versions, thus functionality should be the same.
    BTW that's really good deal.

What is your current CPU? Why do you need to upgrade? What are you using it for? Before you drop a couple hundred on an upgrade, consider its purposes. If you aren't going to take advantage of the CPU (ie. is your CPU at 100% often, or you work w/ CPU intensive programs) then save your money. Spend it on something like a SSD, where you will actually notice a difference.

I'm currently running a P7450 at 2.13ghz. I don't use my laptop for work, Mainly internet surfing. But I play alot of Crysis, Fallout 3 and higher end games..

You think a SSD would be a more noticable difference?

SSD will not give you higher frame rates in games, but will decrease level loading times and overall responsivness of the system. Upgrading CPU may not really benefit your gaming experience. What are the full specs of your laptop ?

I'm a little leery of this auction due to the fact that the seller is based in China, the auction is listed in broken English, and while it says that the processor is "new", there's no telling if it really is, for example, whether or not its been OC'd or not.

In my experience, ES procs perform no different than OEM-branded versions. However, I tend to be extremely cautious when it comes to dealing with foreign sellers overseas, and if the price is too good to be true, it probably is.

Upgrading your processor will only give you single-digit increases in FPS at most. If youre unsatisfied with your laptop's gaming performance, it's probably due to the GPU not your processor.
