Hi there, I recently purchased a Toshiba satellite a135-s2386 model with no complaints except for the rediculously slow boot up and shut down (7 mins). A friend said a RAM upgrade from the 512mb to about 2gb would help this a lot. Also I found a great deal on a Crucial 2gb pc2-5300 kit, the only problem is that the RAM currently installed is pc2-4200. The question I have is could I use the 5300 RAM or should I stick with the 4200 and are they both compatible? Any help on this problem would be great, Thanks.

Memories are usually backwards compatble within the same category. So, the DDR2 PC5300 memory is capable of downclocking itself to DDR2 PC2-4200 speeds.

They're compatible. The PC2-5300 is backward compatible, so it can run at the slower speeds as well.

Also take a look at how many programs are running at startup. Seems that you may have other problems with a seven minute boot up.
