DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.
Installed any funny drivers lately, sir?
As far as a hardware aspect goes, I don't think it is. It could be an ACPI incompatibility or some other hardware conflict. I have had this problem on my desktop in the past, and I suspect it is driver related.
I would recommend that you download a little program called "WhoCrashed". That should give you some idea of what is causing the problem, and what steps you can take to solve it. You will need to analyze the minidump files in the given directory (C:/Windows/Minidump). -
Sorry for hijacking the thread, but don't want to mess up the forum with similar topics.
For the past few days my laptop is incredibly slow, by which I mean that a simplest operation (opening a folder, right-clicking on the desktop, etc.) takes up CPU usage up to 90%+ and I was wondering whether this might be due to hardware malfunction.
Switching my laptop on and off takes double/triple more time than usual (I would like to add that only 45% of the hard drive is occupied, I have defragmented the disk a day ago or so, checked for viruses etc. with Avast and Windows defender, I have reduced the startup programs, temperature is within reason etc.).
I did not download any strange software etc. recently, all I was doing was listening to Spotify and downloading stuff (bought from gog.com, no torrents, rapidshare or what have you) at the same time, when my antivirus software (Avast) started updating at the same time. Since my laptop (specs below) is rather old, it was quite a lot for it to do simultaneously (;p), I couldn't even switch off Spotify, so I just waited for it to become responsive again, but it never started working at its full speed since then.
The laptop was used mostly for simple things, music, writing essays, occasional gaming (old games with system requirements way below what I've got).
I did try running diagnostic programs like 'Hot CPU tester Pro' and 'memtest86-3.5' (checks RAM), but both didn't show any errors. Still, I do not understand what software-based problem could I possibly have, thus I expect the hardware to be the problem. Then again, I'm not a IT wizard.
Anybody got any advice? Is there something I could try to run to get more detailed info or something I could try to solve it?Attached Files:

esphano...what version of windows are you running? Have you tried updating the system BIOS?
-
Are you closing the lid when you shut it down simultaneously? I know a couple Dells out there seem to have trouble shutting down and keeping the lid shut at the same time. Usually seems to be a conflict in the BIOS from what I've seen, where the computer is told to shut down or do something else, and the BIOS tells the computer to sleep when the lid is closed.
If you have any power options in your BIOS, try and disable them. the lid, power button actions and such, and just control those from your windoze. -

@piottras, you might open task manager and give us the list of processes running.
@esphano, sounds like hardware driver corruption. I've seen a few laptops fail because 7 hated their wireless adapters. You might try going to the adapter maker's site and getting the latest update for the LAN card.
I'd do the same for the chipset if you can (that'll be something Intel). -

Esphano, chipset driver is here.
If you post your wireless card model, I could track that down too. -
To the OP: If your PC came with any hardware diagnostic software (usually displayed as an option on boot) now would be the time to use them. Or, get access to a diagnostic software suite like Eurosoft. Then you'll know for sure whether its hardware or software.

guys i have lost that incredible system, because of an nvidia attack.
-
nvidia attack? You'll have to be a little more specific... Hacker hole? Corrupted driver? I don't think your whole system is gone tho.. it takes alot of destruction to do so.
-
i think he means the failure 8000 series card... all NVDIA's fault of course..
-
@piottras, Download ccleaner and auslogics boostspeed, and run those, and clean out your prefetch.
-
In is other thread about warranty he states that the video card sparked causing the entire system die.
-
My notebook is no more.

Actually my system is 1year and 11 months old, will they change my mobo or replace my lifeless notebook with another model?
-
It could go either way. It would depend on what they have on hand. The only way to know is by contacting them.
-
they should give u a replacement.. call dell and if they don't sue them.. they've extended the warranty by 2 years on this laptop so there shouldn't be any problems..
-
Hey...atlast they have agreed replacing the mobo with the refurbished one, but the problem should come again.
Is their any way to change this notebook with another model..cuz i purchased it for more than 68k.
Buying another laptop is not possible for me, so guys i want your help like a friend.Guide me like a friend to help me change this one with another model.
Thank you. -
At last i got the mobo replaced with a refurbished one with the help of a magazine, though i didn't got the model replaced with the another one, but it's fine as it is working.
-
Since you already have a motherboard replacement, I highly doubt that Dell will replace your notebook unless it dies within the next 9 months or so, when its out of warranty. -
I did all i could do to get my system replaced with another model, even i offered them to replace my system with another used system with the same specs but without any overheating or nvidia problem, but they refused to do so.
Thanks for your input.
Is this a hardware failure?
