    Hi there !
I've recently purchased a new 80GB EIDE (WD800BEVE) to replace the old one (which was broken) in my dad's Vaio FS740 notebook . The problem is everytime I plug the new HDD in (I can assure that I do everything just fine because I've worked in IT for a long time), both my DVD and HDD are disabled in BIOS (none are recognized). But when I pull out the new HDD or plug back my old one, the notebook can detect the DVD just fine.

Is there anything I can do ? I have tried all the jumper settings but none worked...
Please help me, thank you so much !

If youre having a problem with BIOS, maybe resetting it will work?
You can reset the BIOS to factory defaults quite easily by using the clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard (usually located beside the BIOS battery).
Make sure the PC is powered off and disconnected and then set the clear CMOS jumper to clear.

I dont know if this will help, maybe someone with more experience could verify this :p

Your Sony might have issues with supporting E-IDE interface. Try staying with IDE/ATA device?

    cheers ...
