    Is this a possible setup?

So my 4 years old rig is unable to handle current games and I believe it's almost time to replace it. However, I have been away from the hardware zone for quite along time thus my knowledge is limited. And there's a setup I have been thinking about:

    - Standard PC (with or without GPU)
    - A Laptop
    - Core: eGPU

So here is the deal, the PC specs will be basic with CPU, Ram and stuffs but (with or without a GPU). Same-thing with the laptop. The star of this setup will be the eGPU, it can be connected to either the PC or laptop for more performance.

Currently I'm away from home, will be back in about 2 years. Hopefully I can build something like this. Please share your news and opinions, I'd love to hear that

This would be the 'worst of all worlds', imo.

Choices of notebooks and desktops (and therefore the features important for them), Performance, portability, reliability and price will all be at their worst ratios.

In two years time? I think the world will have moved on from the eGPU $$$ sucking platform manufacturers would love you to donate your wallet to.

Ask again in a couple of years (today; anyone is just guessing), but this is the state of eGPU today.

Agreed, planning for two years from now is a futile endeavor

@TurretOvaKil why would you need a pc, having a laptop with eGPU, escapes me completely. For media-center & home server needs, mini-pc (Raspberry Pi, ODROID, etc.) are more than enough, moreover that they are much better suited for such application; and for gaming you will have a laptop with eGPU...
