I just noticed a tiny white patch on my lcd, not sure if its a pixel or a clump of pixels. The thing is, on a white background, its really noticeable and the part looks whiter than white, but its really hard to see against a black background.

It sounds more like physical damage to the light diffusing part of the LCD screen. I've been there before.

Even a scratch or small nick on the back of the light diffuser will be pretty visible. For me it happened when I was installing a 3rd wireless antenna. I dropped a small screwdriver on the back of the screen and it left a few small nicks in it. It took me a while to notice it, but now that I know its there it is kind of annoying. The imperfections catch the light better and cause it to be reflected out. You don't see it when the screen is black since obviously the pixels aren't letting any light through, and it is most prominent when the screen shows white because obviously it is letting the most light through at that time.

hmm, i tried taking a picture but it doesn't show up on my camera, the most similar thing i could find is this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo-ibm/108872-lenovo-n100-screen-lcd-spots.html

    except its only ONE spot.

Alright, i see, but the thing is I haven't touched the lcd or harmed it any way, just opening/closing the lid normally. The notebook is brand new so hopefully i can RMA it..

Is seeing the spot on your screen dependent on the viewing angle like it was in that case?

It could easily be a defect that occurred during manufacture, transportation, or assembly.

nope, i can stare right at the screen and its there, but when i do try to look at it from the left or the right it does get harder to see. I can best see it just by looking at it.

    Those are pressure marks.

There is probably something inside the lid that puts too much pressure on that particular part of the screen when there is overall pressure on the outside of the lid.

That was my first though on mine, but it turned out to be permanent. Either way, there is a problem with the light diffuser, and since he didn't do it, it has to go in for warranty.

    Are pressure marks not permanent?

Oh, idk. With the LCD running but without the case, I could press on the back with my finger and make it do the same thing, and it wasn't permanent. I guess it depends if it was hard enough to mar the diffuser or not.

was lazy and didn't read other posts but some times when u have stuck pixels you can unstick them if you take your finger and gently(like barely touching the screen) and slowly move in a clockwise and counter clockwise motion. My 800 dollar nec 1600x1200 monitor got a cluster of them in a month or 2 after i got it and i googled around and found that recommendation in some tech article and it worked like a champ...never had one again....than fedex dropped my box and tried to not even give me my insurance money for it...mother ers

Well other than that little white dot, i also have another "stuck" pixel but I'm not entirely sure if its a bright dot or its dead. The thing is, i can make it out on a completely black screen (i.e, i go to paint and just the fill the canvas black) and i can see a little odd colored dot, even though its really hard to make out, it's there. The pixel itself looks grey on a white background, not perfectly and fully black. Does that classify as a bright dot? Because then i can definitely RMA this with ASUS with their ZBD policy on screens.

that definitely is a stuck pixel. If a pixel is a X color and stays that color its stuck. dead pixels are black...failed to work. as i said give it a try little massage it and see if it un does it...if not rma that mofo ^^

I've tried the massage and tapping thing with a q-tip, didn't work. I will RMA it because stuff like this drives me nuts lol.
