I've read the battery thread obviously, but it doesn't seem to offer any conclusive answers about this:

I use battery until there's about 30% charge left.
Plug in AC until about 85% charged.
    Remove AC and continue...

Well, by theory and general knowledge, frequent use / recharge cycles reduce the over all life time of a battery, as far as I understood. And given that every battery has a given average number of cycles that they can run properly in their prescribed life time, I would guess the more we do this, the lesser the battery will last... this is my opinion from what I learnt..

I mostly use my lappy plugged in since for now its serving as a desktop replacement, and once in a while I completely discharge and recharge it, say once a month or so... don't know if this is the *right* practice either, but I am just doing this for now... probably based on constant suggestions / advise here, I would change in the future.. but anyways..

Would just leaving it plugged in all the time be better?

Yes, because I think there are circuits inside which prevent it from over charging and thereby prevent the damage as a result of overcharging...
