    Is this horrible, or OK?

Well, I've used HD Tune to find out how sucky my 4 - 5 year old laptop is on MB per sec...and this is what I got.

How bad would this probably run on things on games like Soldier Front and stuff...? Ah well - it's 4 years old about, so I GUESS it would suck anyways right? :frown:

Is that HDD 4 years old? It is quite good performance - the latest 2.5" HDD peak at around 60MB/s and tail off to around 30MB/s.

The high CPU utilisation means that you either has a lot of other processes running or the CPU isn't very powerful. I suspect the CPU is a weaker link than the HDD in your case.

Your test looks good to me for a HDD@4200 average, burst, seek. I am familiar with HDTach so I don't know if we can compare but CPU usage are in the 2% to 5% range. W/Hitachi@5400 my average is about 40MB/s, burst 89MB/s, seek 15ms.

As far as gaming I think GPU and RAM more critical, so think about those 1st. Slow HDD adds to load time if everything else is up to it.
