Toshiba - 2TB External USB 2.0 and eSATA Hard Drive - PH3200U-1EXB
Is this worth it...all i would use this for is data storage like movies...or should i just buy a seagate or hitachi drive?
-
and what would you back it up to?
As a rule of thumb, you need the same amount of backup capability as you have on-line storage.
Unless your restore strategy is to re-rip all of your media (don't forget the metadata) in which case you need to legitimately own and keep your originals. -
That's a good price for a 2TB external.

Or get a quality WD 2 TB for cheaper...?
Plus it's also Best Buy *retches* -
i know its best buy lol...but surprisingly thats the cheapest 2TB before you posted that one ^^ Also in the near future is there going to be any good drops in price per gig?
no eSATA.... :/ Also i am all about building a 2TB if you know of a cheap 2TB internal drive. -

Oh yeah dude. I've been working retail the past 2 years, when a 1 TB desktop SATA drive used to be like 130 on sale. This past Black Friday we had a Seagate 1 TB 7200 rpm 3.5" for 50 bucks. Last Black Friday we had the 1.5 TB Barracuda 3.5" SATA 7.2k drive for 99 bucks. And this Black Friday we had it for 80, and a WD Caviar Green for 60 bucks (mad cause I bought mine 2 months earlier for 81 with my employee purchase). Course this also applies for SSD but the price drop is alot less dramatic as conventional spin o' death hard drives. -
The WD doesnt seem to have eSATA, are there any WD externals with eSATA?
-
Wow nice link. I might have to take advantage of that. I went with a Seagate GoFlex Portable/2.5" because I wanted to be able to take it on the go... but the more and more I think about it, the more I want something to back that up to!

Oh snap you are right lol, oh well most laptops don't have eSATA anyway. Plus I avoid Toshiba products like the plague anyway, cheap isn't always better

Your best bet may be to just build your own on NewEgg. I just, for fun, priced out a 1TB drive... exact price of the WD Tsunade posted. It lacked eSata, but bump up to the next level enclosure (+$10) and you get eSata. $80 for 1TB then (with eSata). (Of course not 2tb as you were looking for, but you could setup your own with 2tb drive as well).
EDIT: Would be looking about $130 for 2tb with eSata enclosure. (And like Tsunade I am not a Toshiba fan, and would probably spend $30 extra for a WD drive).
To be fair the following was going for good ratings, not low price.

i built mine 1TB one for 110 bucks but i got a real nice external. Its the rosewell one. esb 2.0 and eSATA and its got a fan ^^ hardrive is from 28-31c ^^ But i was just trying to find a cheaper 2TB external because i am about to rip all of my roommates DVD's and my neighbors lol. Than its going into my netgear router so it will be on the network
EDIT: oh and it had 70-140MBps transfer....depending on being on the inner or outer part.
I was going to build my own but all the seagate and hitachi 2TB drives are expensive....i was looking at 7200rpm ones though...wasn't looking for slow crappy 5400rpm ones
EDIT: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...rades/536786-raid-0-question.html#post6924758 Was wondering if i can do raid 0 using an express card with 2 eSATA ports. plz give me your advice in that page too ^^
EDIT: So worth it this thing is only 40 bucks http://www.addonics.com/products/host_controller/adexc34-2e.asp
Is this worth it?
