    i just upgraded hdd for my sony z540 from wd5000bevt to HM640jj.

    from HDTune, the performance of SAMSUNG_HM640JJ looks much better than WD5000bevt. however, the battery discharged is much faster either.
    the discharging time is 30min shorter at least than before.......

    other aspects of hm640jj are good so far.

    Well 7200rpm drives do use more power than 5400 rpm drives and the WD scorpion blue drives are designed to be power efficient so I don't think you have any problem.

    One thing you can try to do is see what the power settings for your new drive are.
