Hi guys...especially worried fans of AMD...its coming ...the 45 nm architecture by AMD.. read this article on timesofindia.com
The Article:
BANGALORE: Leading chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Inc expanded its research and development (R&D) operations in India by opening a silicon design facility in the country's IT hub.
AMD chairman and CEO Hector Ruiz, who inaugurated the new facility said, Its Indian subsidiary plays a critical role in the company's global design network, including development of its most advanced, next-generation processing solutions.
Indian engineers play a critical role in our global design network. As their role and importance increases in the region, we intend to increase our headcount for future growth. This 350-seat facility gives them world-class equipment and resources to excel, said Ruiz.
He said the new facility would be vital in designing and delivering industry-leading solutions tailored to the needs of its customers all over the world.
The R&D teams in Bangalore are playing a lead role on AMD's first 45-nanometre (nm) quad-core microprocessor, code-named Shanghai.
The teams are also involved in design testing and optimisation of the new chip.
The R&D teams played a vital role in intellectual property issues for AMD's first quad-core microprocessor called Barcelona.
AMD India managing director Alok Ohrie said the expansion demonstrated the confidence of the parent company in the delivery capabilities of the India R&D teams.
During the past six years, we have grown our market share and made significant contributions to AMDs global efforts, Ohrie added.

Let me know what you all think....

It is coming, but when? And it takes more than a die shrink to make a processor better, so let us hope that team is actually designing something that beats the corresponding competition when it is released.
-
Atleast, Intel will not have a long-term monopoly...
Ya and i also hope AMD launches a great product -
Intel's 45nm process is unsurpassable. AMD's 45nm can only match it at best. The only way that will happen is if AMD (in conjunction with IBM) has ramped up the time table for switching from SOI (currently used) to HKMG similar to what Intel's 45nm process uses. If AMD does this, they may be able to scale Shanghai to 3GHz+ clocks and compete with Intel (at least more than they can now with the current Agena core Phenoms).
Don't hold your breath. 2009 is AMD's best hope for a comeback with a new architecture (Bulldozer). -
The demo versions of Penryn and Nehalem processors look pretty damn good. I wouldn't put my money on AMD.
-
What, so it's good news that AMD is *now* ramping up research for 45nm, *after* Intel released 45nm processors?
Isn't that stretching it a bit?
If anything, I'd say this is confirmation that AMD is still a *long* way away from 45nm. Unfortunately. -
actually i am just saying that budget users & fans will have a choice..
Dont know whats wrong with AMD...they used to be ahead of intel few years back -
It'll be a year at least. Chip fabs take a LONG time before they're fully operational.
-
More money = more researches...Intel >AMD
-
Who cares who makes the CPU isn't it the performance that matters. Either all INTEL rules! Plus it is not evident in U.S but in places like Turkey I know when I go there for summers only Intel laptops sell.
It's Coming... AMD 45 nm
