BTW are those BGA chips with soldered pins, or they're normal PGA? Not that I'm going to buy one, just curious :)

thought that the QM67 chipset won't support the newer IB CPUs
if so, who has a compatible motherboard for these chips?

A 22nm IVB i7-3612QM 2.1 compared to a i7-2670QM 2.2 at http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...nchmarks-revealed-yknyong1-2.html#post8369334 is 5% faster at the same clock but consumes 22% less power at max load (35W TDP vs 45W TDP). The power saving feature means can either get more battery life or higher performance levels before hitting Tjmax.

I read somewhere that Intel concentrated on improving the HD4000 iGPU performance rather than the CPU with the IVB release.

They made it wrong on the ebay, there's no way a mobile i5 can be quad cores, it's dual cores.

I am looking forward to the 3612qm or the 3720qm, the ability to play emulation games will determine it :D.

Sorry, where does it say BGA?

All I could see on the listings are "Socket G2 (rPGA988B)" and "988-pin micro-PGA (rPGA988B)"

EDIT: Looks like most do say BGA, but the 3610QM is listed as PGA.
Could be a mistake by the seller...

OP is confusing people. Do some research first. The mobile ivy bridge (IB) chips aren't compatible with sandy bridge (SB) laptops. Also IB laptops havent been released yet. Moreover, these are useless because they are BGA chips and not the user upgrade friendly PGA chips. So you can prebuy some qs chips at retail pricing of final spec chips in anticipation of an unreleased compatible platform, more power to you.

    I did some research

I know they aren't supposed to work, but there have been many times where it's been possible to mod a component to get it to work with an unsupported platform. For example take this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...intel-gl960-gl40-useful-info-pll-modders.html

And all I said in the OP was that the prices were not bad and that *I* would like to try one. I wasn't telling other people to go ahead and do so...

BTW I already responded to the whole BGA/PGA thing 1 post above yours, yes some of the links had BGA CPUs, but there are PGA out there as well.

Ah.. we have laptopmonkey aboard. Thank you for joining in this important thread.

Does that mean you've tested one of your IVB quad ES chips in your HM65-equipped Clevo P150 finding it didn't boot?

Minimal at best. But then again thats the nature of "the tick" vs "the tock". In the real world that means the ~4 hours I get would yield maybe 4.5 at best and no noticeable increase in performance.

Pre sandy bridge upgrade? Yes please! Upgrade from my latest and greatest sandy bridge? Nah Ill wait.

I also was under the impression the mid to higher end quads were still 45w TDP making them even less of a power savings.

The price is still a bit too high for me, I need to buy one of these + a core 2 quad for my M17 (and a second 4870) so I'm waiting until it fits my budget.
