Yes, I am a proud owner of this machine.

    Specs:
    Dual Core T7250
    Nvidia 8600M GT DDR2
    320 GB Hard drive space
2 GB of RAM etc etc...

I read somewhere here that this laptop has MXM slot and that the graphics card is switchable. So can someone tell me which upgrade of graphics card would be best and how much will it cost.

    My best regards, thanks.

Unfortunately, any faster cards (ie 8800m) will produce too much heat for a 15.4'' system to handle. That if you have the right MXM slots, the chances of that is pretty slim anyway. Hope this cleared a few things up.

But GX700 has a 17'' WXGA monitor and casing. I'm just curious will it be compatible and what will be capable. :)

    Thanks for replies.

I did a little research and no luck. But considering you have a 17", keep looking to see if you can upgrade to an 8800.

The MSI GX700 does have an MXM interface, but it doesnt look like wolf ever responded back on it.
Send him a PM, just click on his user's name, and click the send private message one.

If he/she doesnt respond, than you should send an email to the people at mxm-upgrade, they would be able to tell you what MXM port you have, and what you can upgrade to.

A nbr fellow by the name of ice-tea runs it, so search his name, and you can PM him.

    thanks for the quick reply.
i'm assuming there are special MXM cards for the MXM port. this is probably a n00b question - would they go into the PCI-E Express slot? at my local computer shop (MSY - Australia) they have a list of PCI-E Express Slot Nvidia Chipsets was wondering whether any of them would work considering this laptop is MXM compatible

hmm, 8600m gt should be MXM-II, a high-end card like 8800m GTS/GTX will definetely have a MXM-III interface, they have different power ratings so I don't think you can up grade even if your laptop has a MXM slot.
you might be able to get a 8700/9600/9700 though.

    Thanks for the reply...

I did some research myself. Aparently some of the guys here are almost certain that this model of MSI hasn't got mxm III standard.

Do you think 9600 would be a drastic step up in 3D performance, cuz with the little OC i am achieving ~8500 in 3d mark 2005 and ~4500 in 2006.

The 9600M GT is not going to offer that much of a performance increase over the 8600GT.
It may be about a 5% increase to maybe 10% increase depending on your games, and that may only translate to say 3 fps, which definietly is not worth the money it is going to cost to upgrade (that is if it is possible to upgrade it)

You really shouldnt overclock your gpu, cause the 8 series cards from nVidia already have core problems, and its not smart to accelerate them by overclocking.

Well the slight OC is simply necessery at the state of playing Assassins Creed, or Vegas.

K-Tron, you are right... The price is too big for 2-4 frames per game :(

    Any experience on 7900 ?

I'm asking, because i'm a heavy gamer and I think that if you are playing a game, dont play it under the 35-40 frames, on a laptop ofcourse. And the only game i can play above is COD4...

so there would be no possible way to update a gx700 from the 8600gt to a 980gtx in the future? as it is mxmII and i think 9800 mxmIII?

There is no way youre getting a 9800 in their. The 9800 series runs in a much higher power level than the 8600/9600 series cards do. Because of the great power difference their is usally also a size difference, so most likely it will not work.
The 9800 series cards are MXM III or MXM IV, so they will not work in your system anyways. You can only upgrade to a card in the same MXM level.
Please check out "mxm-upgrade" for more options.
