I just bought a new Sony SR. The guy started it up at the store and the lithium 6 cell battery is half full, as indicated in Vista. It's been a while since I bought any new electronics. What should I do now? Use the laptop and battery completely falls flat? Or start charging right away without using it until its full? Or can I use it while charging it? Too many of these rumors of what to do first after buying something new is flooding my head. Thanks.

The usual recommendation is to fully charge the battery. Doesn't Sony include any quick start guide?

What they probably mean is get it plugged into the mains so there's a reliable supply of power during the initial configuration.

Let the battery have an uninterupted first charge of at least 15 hours.

    Cheers,

yes because it needs to go through atleast 2 cycles full>empty>full - I usually leave it plugged in all day and night

You are not the one who is confused. :)

Full charge and discharge not a bad idea sort of get the blood flowing so to speak. But by no means critical. And getting that full charge while using is of no concern.
