I just bought a cheapo enclosure from ebay for my 2.5" ide hd... lol but i was in a rush so i forgot to check if the enclosure was ide or sata.. just checked the description now, and it doesn't state which interface it is... what do you think it is?:-

lol the listing may just be a dud, but i dont mind lol it was super cheap anyway.

The listing states it supports 40G or less...that leads me to believe it might be IDE. For a while laptop IDE drives topped out at 40G, which is why the spec might state that as a max.

No guarantees.

I bought the same for a friend. This box is an IDE box and will work with HDD bigger than 40g. I tested it on 130g harddrive.

forget to say. When I tested it on a Gateway MX3050 with a 40g HDD Windows had trouble recognising it. When I tested it again with the 130g HDD it worked fine. I tried it again with the 40g on a dell M20 and it worked fine.
That to say that all depends on the power supplied by the USB ports in your laptop.
For my self I bought an enclosure that accepts both IDE and SATA. It was tested in different laptops and no problems even in the Gateway MX3050. Can't show you pictures as ebay (UK) is down for maintenance.
Just bought an enclosure off of ebay- forgot to check
