I feel I did my research correctly, and if I want a fast OS this seems to be the right way to go. Thoughts/ suggestions? I just hope I didnt miss something, or if I should have waited.

OMG! You bought now... now? :D

    Congrats! ;)

Do me (us?) a favour and do a before/after benchmarks and if you could, real life 'tests' (don't want to call them benchmarks!) for us?

    Thanks. ;)

BTW, what will it be going in?

I just ordered about half an hour ago, with express air shipping(only $5 more than normal :) ) so if all goes well it should be here saturday. NCIX finally got a mass amount of stock in so I just bit the bullet and did it.

Haha yea ill throw up some benchmarks, I am the only one here thats got one?

Did you get a G1 or one of the G2 flavors?

In any case yeah you made a good choice. You should really love the snap it gives your system

I got the G2, the 80gb version, that should be fine for the OS and the few games I have installed, as well as programs.

SSD is definitely the future. I can't wait to throw one in my laptop someday. I got an OCZ vertex 120gb w/ 64mb cache a while ago and it's awesome. I only use it to install the OS and some programs. I've been using it for something like 6 months and have yet to tweak it, and i only updated the bios once and haven't even run the TRIM command yet but everything seems as snappy as day one.

I looked at Intel back then too, but the price was too high for me, especially the SLCs

p.s. make sure to read whatever tweak thread / forum for your particular SSD. For example, you might find out that it's best to locate stuff like page files, temporary internet cache folders, and utorrent download folders to a 2nd mechanical drive, i dunno if this applies to you but i read that SSDs perform best when small writes aren't involved.

Most people don't have two drives, and plugging in an exteral HDD via US defeats the point... (USB is limiting it)

SPeaking about "small writes" - actually, that's one of the plus points of a (good) HDD vs. a SSD.
On a HDD the mechanical head has to search for the "bits and pieces" on a SSD it can access all at once.
But this is where the controller etc. comes in.

The main advantage of the Intel SSD is the small writes, it simply blows even other SSD drives away in that category, therefore it is highly optimal for the OS.

But I have a 500gb drive as well as another 250gb drive so storage wont be an issue, I keep all downloads on one HDD, and would only be using the SSD for the OS, programs, and some games.

PS found it $45 cheaper at another online store in Canada, going to price match, thanks NCIX for that :).

Didnt install anything quite as expensive or performance oriented as the Intel, but I did recently install a 64 Gb PhotoFast G Monster V2 SSD into a Sony TX670 and noticed quite a difference in performance along with the battery lasting more than an hour longer.
