Someone said that a 100gb hd @ 5400rpms is almost as quick as a 60 gb 7200 drive because it has more space or something? I am trying to configure a computer and am wondering which of the two I should get. I wonder if I would use more than 60 gb's with upcoming games, music etc... So I don't know....what would the performance increase be between the two?

If'n I can remember right HDTune on Hitachi 5400 100 is ~30 MBs, while 7200 Seagate is 39MBs. So 7200 would load / boot much faster.
As a HDD gets bigger, speed drops /response time up, thus worse aka slower when near the upper 1/3 limits of the HDD.

the higher the plate density the higher the read speed. But that still doesn't make up for the difference in RPM. Add to that higher seek times for lower RPM drivers.

Seek times have a higher impact on performance in real life use than in benchmarks that are sequentials reads.

Is it the 7K100 or one of the other new generation 7.2K RPM? If yes go for it.

The older generation 7K60 are slower. In fact my 7K60 benchmark results are at aproximately the same level as the new generations of 5400RPM drives. Just a matter of technological improvement.
