I have got my Thinkpad docked and hooked to a 21" monitor in front of me. I also need to output to a 42" tv behind me, just not at the same time. You see what I'm doing?

Can you not just plug both devices in and then select which 1 to output to through a NVIDIA control panel?

Software, either the NV control panel or the stock windows control panel, will do this.

The issue is the computer only has 1 VGA output.

Then what you need is something like this:
    Newegg.com - CABLES TO GO 03364 2-1 HD15 VGA Manual Switch Box

To be honest, I was trying to think why it wouldn't work the other way on a KVM though. It's just an analog signal, unless it uses some form of logic and is expecting an input or an output in the respective ports. The on I linked looks like it's just a dumb switch that doesn't care direction of flow.

Or use a Matrox external adapter than can drive several displays from a single vga or dvi input.

More costly than a simple switch box, but it's an option.

I saw that switchbox but the reviews said the video quality takes a hit. The thing looks like it was built in someone's basement. So I'm leaning towards a good brand KVM, I'll probably have to try it out and if it doesn't work just return it.

Meanwhile, a straightup VGA splitter... The problem here is, one screen is at 1080p and the TV is at 720P only, would this cause any issues?
