I just want to be able to hear the input I know Vista is hearing. I can see the bars going up and down when I talk into the usb microphone but it won't loop the audio back through the speakers. The mic is enabled so don't ask me to enable it. It records too, I just want realtime feedback through the speakers. I'm willing to edit registry keys, use other drivers (the audio is crappy anyways and I'm not really an audiophile), anything to get my drunk buddies singing.

A little customer "support" for you guys. I thought it was funny.

Hi Haskell
Haskell McRavin says:
Howdy
Gabriel_GWPR415 says:
I am fine
Gabriel_GWPR415 says:
I checked our record using the SNID xxxxxx and I found that the system serial number is xxxxxxxxxx. This serial number is not registered.
Haskell McRavin says:
Nope, not yet.
Gabriel_GWPR415 says:
Haskell, I resgitered your system and the limited warranty will expire on 02/21/2010
Haskell McRavin says:
Rockin
Gabriel_GWPR415 says:
I've read your issue description from the submission form. You want to use your laptop like a karaoke
Haskell McRavin says:
Yes I would like to
Haskell McRavin says:
I have software and wanted to use it for parties
Gabriel_GWPR415 says:
Haskel, you can use that I recommend using an external microphone. But this will not work like as karaoke
Haskell McRavin says:
I am using one.
Haskell McRavin says:
Logitech usb microphone
Gabriel_GWPR415 says:
Did i work?
Haskell McRavin says:
it will record, but won't output audio over the speakers unless i record and playback
Haskell McRavin says:
i wanted realtime audio, recording audio isnt' fun with karaoke
Gabriel_GWPR415 says:
If you are interested to get more assistance and receive tutorial, Answers By Gateway can handle this steps by steps. If you are interested with this support, you can order a pin to contact them. The pin number has 3 options. You can select 30 minutes, 90 minutes and 1 year subscription. The cost of each is $59.99, $129.99 and & $199.99 respectively.
Haskell McRavin says:
So you don't actually give support, this is just a way to activate the warranty.
Haskell McRavin says:
Thats not cool.
Gabriel_GWPR415 says:
Haskell, your request is not part of our scope.
Haskell McRavin says:
Its a hardware limitation, and I bought the hardware from Gateway. The integrated microphone won't do realtime audio either.
Haskell McRavin says:
If you could tell me how to make the integrated hardware to do this I could transpose that info to the usb mic.
Haskell McRavin says:
This has to be something disabled stopping the realtime audio.
Gabriel_GWPR415 says:
Haskell, Answers By Gateway will do this for you
Haskell McRavin says:
Yeah but I thought THIS was customer support.
Haskell McRavin says:
Seems its a way to SELL customer support.
Gabriel_GWPR415 says:
You are right but we have a limited support.
Haskell McRavin says:

Looks like Gateway support could not help you.
I do not know the answer offhand, but someone here will.
What exactly are you trying to do?
Are you trying to record the current sound and output it through the laptop's speakers?
K-TRON -
I want to sing to music. KARAOKE BABY! I have to be able to hear myself at the same time as the karaoke player is playing, but all I seem to be able to do is record myself. No realtime sound comes through the speakers. Sucks major time. I'm afraid its got to do with some RIAA stuff with the music industry I read on another forum. Limitations of the driver or Vista, I'm not sure which....
-
No offence mate, but you are asking your hardware supplier to fix your software problem.
Plugging in a microphone doesn't make it transmit your voice through the speakers without proper software (your karaoke stuff in this case).
I think you should ask your software supplier what to do and not gateway.
Good luck getting it sorted. -
Am I stuck with this until they put out new drivers? I know creative has something called "what u hear".
-
Rockin, guess I'll have to wait then.
-
can you not use sam broadcaster that has a thing where you can hear yourself, just click mic lock and then open your karaoke software and tada..
-
That works... rockin.
Is there a more compact program that does this? Why do they make it so hard to do this on my laptop... -
Just found a way
Control Panel -> Sound -> Current default playback device (in this case your speakers)
Under properties, got to the Levels tab and unmute the microphone. Should be able to hear everything you say into your mic now~ -
Ya, and if that doesn't work, asio4all prolly will.
-
See theres no level for mic in speakers. The only place the mic is present is in the recording devices tab. Its unmuted and picks up sound.
-
Theres like a 1.5 second lag from input to output... I have sound but theres no way a drunk person could compute with lag...
