I would like to buy a PS/2 to USB converter and use my old mouse and keyboard through a 20 ft. USB extension cable into my notebook's USB port. Will this cause any problems? Noticeable lag etc.?

I seem to recall USB to be limited to 12 ft. runs and then a repeater/boostr is recommended.
As it is a direct connection, I can't see lag being a problem though - but I've never seen anything longer than about 8 ft. for keyboards though.

I was wrong about the 12 ft. - it is 15 ft. see the following pdf which confirms it.

As long as you have a modern and updated O/S, this seems very promising. Just note that you seem to lose a USB 2.0 port though to use this extra length.
