I have just noticed that the Dell xps 17 comes with an option to upgrade to a backlit keyboard in the US but not in the uk where i just ordered mine. Would it be possible to fit a US keyboard to my UK model and what are the differences between a US and UK keyboard.

Also does anyone know if i could souce the part from an online shop other than dell?

I know i just asked about 5 questions, any and all advice will be apprieciated as i have always wanted a backlit keyboard on my lappy :D

    Thanks in advance

Yes the keyboard would work. No only Dell can source the keyboards at this point, no OEM resellers yet.

Well i have had a good look around both the UK and US dell website and as i thought I can't just buy the part (oh for a simple life). I am currently waiting for a reply on the dell forums but i doubt i will get one. I can see this ending up with a 90minute phonecall and a big lump of dissapointment but will update if i get any luck

Right you have to call them up to order the keyboard. Alot of times Dell will overcharge anyway on the website, sometimes they might be able to give you a better price over the phone.

Thanks Tsunade, will give them a call next week.

The lappy arrives on monday but i am working away from home so i wont get to sort it out until i get back next friday :S. I think i have most of the info i need now (i posted another thread about a potential RAM upgrade). I am just trying to find out if asking about fitting an SSD would be a stupid question lol.

Well the max RAM for you is 8 GB DDR3. 1333 speed if you have the quad core i7 and 1066 for i3/i5/dual core i7.

Yes you can put in any 2.5" 9mm SATA drive into the XPS 17, including SSDs.
