Sorry** if this is the wrong place.
How heavy is a pound exactly? I mean I know it's 453 grams, but is there a more intuitive way to describe it... like 5 pillows or something lol... I kind of want to know the difference between say 5.1 pounds and 6.6 pounds so I could decide which laptop to buy before I buy it. It saves the trouble of returning it.
Thanks![]()

A gallon of milk weighs about 8.5lbs. Can you judge from that?
-
1-2lbs may not sound like alot, but with the acessories, books, etc. it adds up very quickly....
-
Which is why I want to know the exact weight of 1 pound so I can decide which laptop is too heavy for me

what i do when i have to ship something out through ebay and need to estimate the weight is to compare it to bags of food. I mean packaged food like spagetti, where the weight is on the bag

You know, just take some books with you, and just use the weight scaler.
Simple.

The food idea is good though. -
firstwave: weigh yourself on the scale with the books, then weigh yourself without. Subtract, and you get the weight of the books.

Weight does not give the full picture. 1 lb is not that much, it all depends on whats the appilcation. Go to a computer store and handle the laaptops to see for u'r self.

Carry around a 5lb bag of sugar, then carry it around with about 2lbs of butter on top of it. You'll notice a difference.

When you go below 6lbs... every 1lb feels a "lot" lighter. Well it does to me anyway... Not only that but bigger+heavier laptops may have bigger & heavier power bricks which can add another 1/2lb
For example if I didn't care about the size of laptops I wouldn't find any difference between a 17" 8lbs monster and 9lbs elephant but if you're talking about the difference between 4lbs and 5lbs then there is a lot. I would put the 4lbs and below in the "ultraportable" class and around 5lbs in the "thin & light" category.
I'm thinking of going even lighter with the Panasonic Y5 (3.37lbs) yet still have what I call a usuable day to day 14.1" screen.
If you already own a laptop then there is a good way to test it. I use to remove the optical drive bay (if supported) and the battery pack which equates to about a pound or more. You can then "feel" the difference. The only problem I found was me thinking "wow wouldn't it be nice if this is the total weight"... "I need something lighter"...
Kind of a weird question, but kind of important :)
