It all disappeared right when I'm thinking I want to order up 16GB for the M17X that I have on the way. A few other vendors have it, but for a higher price plus tax and shipping. UGH. Is there a shortage because of this forum recommending it??Seriously, does anyone have any idea how long it will be before it comes back into stock (inside information?
)
-
If it's actually available by then, that will work great. My EDD is 5/11 as of now...thanks!
-
I just set myself an auto-notify on Newegg. They seem to release it in batches because of its popularity. It will usually pop up once a week and be available for a day(or two if you are lucky).

It has been always like that with the HyperX, they even limited the quantity per buyer but still it sells like cheap gas.
-
Hey a quick question about the HyperX.
As said by the OP its ususally out of stock, but I found some at $100 last week in amazon and decided to buy it. The only problem is the product code ends in G8 and not G8X. Is it the same model the R3 can use? is there a diference that can affect its performance? -
8GX supports the Intel XMP profile while the 8G does not. That said, I checked Newegg Canada and the 8GX is still available, in Canada. I don't know if those outside the country can order from there, however.
-
Rickards, as you can see in my sig my configuration is similar to yours (i7 2720). If i were to install the G8 HyperX ram, will it be able to run at 1600 MHz, or you NEED the Intel XMP profile to run at those speeds?
-
It should run at 1600 MHz since your processor supports it. From what I've read on these boards, those with a 2630QM processor need to use the Intel XMP Profile 2 to run the RAM.
-
-
2630QM will run at 1600 c9 via xmp 2
(doesn't say that it's an i7-2630QM, but "original" frequency is noted as being 2ghz....and it's from my first r3 which had a 2630)
Also, the new 1600 and 1866 hyperX PnP ram will work at their rated frequencies without xmp (as xmp is not part of their feature set) as they are JDEC compliant - though the timings are quite loose. -
HYPERX BACK IN STOCK!
Get it while it's hot folks!

Thanks for definitively answering, Kunekaden!! Apologies for any confusion!
-
WOW that was quick. It's already sold out again!!
I put 16GB in my cart, then it reduced it to 8GB because of insufficient quantity, then it was out of stock before I could even order the 8GB!!! -
same question as dionisios: i have an m17x r2 w/ an i7 940 - if i understand correctly i should be able to run 1600 with overclock right?
and damnit i would miss the in stock sticks by 1 hour, ive been sitting on a 100 dollar gift card for 3 months waiting to catch them in stock. -
Same thing happened to me. I was adding a Crucial M4 to my cart and about to checkout and I see it is gone....DAMNIT!

For all of you looking to buy hyperx 1600 xmp ram, you should know it's not only sold at newegg
Kingston Technology Company - - Where To Buy - USA
Buy it directly from Kingston (out of stock until 5/2)
or get the PnP version, which is in stock
...or you can pick up the 1866mhz PnP ram - also directly from Kingston -
-
...Then buy the PnP HyperX 1600.
You won't even have to set the xmp profile for it to work properly. -
I was on auto-notify prior to this, and I never received an email about it coming back in stock. It was blind luck that I was skimming this thread again when someone posted that it was back in stock!
-
Note: This is PnP (plug-and-play) HyperX 1600 c9, not XMP
(You don't have to do anything with this ram, just plug it in and it'll run at 1600 c9 - even on an i7-2630QM -
And all 8GB 1600mhz kits of the Hyperx is out of stock, on every single site, regardless of being KHX1600C9S3K2/8G or KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX. -

Only the XMP kit is there. -
Well the price is inflated by $25. $100 on newegg flat...
And I doubt we can use the 1866Mhz speed on the M17x? -
Then you doubt incorrectly.
the 1866 ram is JDEC compliant and will run on all 2nd gen i7 platforms (with bios support)
m17x-r3 has support for up to 2133mhz

For those interested in the 1866Mhz PnP kit on eBay for $145 flat.
In the meantime I am waiting for Newegg. -
Who knows?
I ordered 8gb 1866 on release day. If I see an improvement in 3dsmax render times over 1600 c9, I'll pick up another 8gb. I'm just worried about the c11 timing with a 2720. -
Yeah, it may not seem like much, but to spend $50 more for the same 16GB directly from Kingston is not worth it to me. I'd rather wait and get it directly from Newegg for the lower price...
-
And how much did you pay for it? $163?
Also why are you worried about the C11 timings? I'm sure it can be taken down to C10. -
pnp is different in that....you don't need to enable xmp for it to work and you can (attempt to) adjust the timings manually if bios supports such tinkering.
I'm not sure how many xmp enabled laptops there are around, so this broadens kingston's market.
As for taking it down to c10 (or c9, like desktop), I hope so too. -
Kunekaden: Please post if the faster RAM makes a difference. I'm also an architect and use 3DS Max on occasion, AutoCAD 2012 a whole bunch, Photoshop CS5, etc. so faster rendering times would make the extra cost of the 1866 speed worth it...
-
oh sweet, you can answer a question for me then!
How's hardware acceleration with 2012 + 6970?
Installing it on my first r3 completely disabled hardware accel in 3dconfig
uhh...I mean hyperx ram something
Yeah. -
Anyone seen this review? What are your thoughts? They compared 1333 MHz CL9 memory to the HyperX 1866MHz CL11:
Kingston HyperX 8GB 1866MHz PnP Memory Kit For Notebooks - Sandy Bridge Notebooks Get HyperX Treatment - Legit Reviews -
Yep I have seen that review.
It seems it will only be several percent faster.

Video. -
-
1333MHz CL7 < 1600MHz CL9
Difference is 266MHz in speed as above, and two points of CL.
The jump from 1600MHz to 1866MHz is also 266MHz and two CL points.
Therefore in theory, going on what we already know, then the below must be true:
1600MHz CL9 < 1866MHz CL11 -
2630 + 1600 c9 was great for my use (zero memory errors in rendering)
faster CPU (2720) + slower timings could end up a bad combo for me is all I'm saying. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
*huggles hyperX* its not bad for slower and tighter timings either.
-
Newegg has the 1866MHz kit for $130, should be in stock soon. Anybody think it's worth getting it over the $100 1600MHz kit?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Not really.
-
The i7-2720QM appears to only support up to 1600MHz anyway
Intel® Core? i7-2617M Processor (4M Cache, 1.50 GHz)with SPEC Code(s)SR03T
The i7-2617M in the M11x R3 only supports up to 1333MHz
Feel free to correct me if this isn't valid
Now that the two HyperX modules are the same price ($99), is it worth getting the PnP one or the blue XMP one? I know the XMP one has a profile that does 1333MHz at CL7, would the PnP one default to these timings if I run it at 1333MHz as well?

Lower timings will beat faster memory any day.
-
Hi.
Does anyone which is better?
Kingston 1600Mhz ddr3 cl7 or Kingston 1866Mhz cl11?
Thanks for your answers. -

Yeah the higher speed kits tend not to be able to pull off the slower speeds but tighter timings.
I cant get mine to do 6-5-5-15.
Kingston Hyper X all sold out?!
