    Hello!

I just baught a pair of 2gb Kingston valueram so-dimms (with these specs: 2GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM) for my Travelmate 7720 (got a total of 2gb in it right now, so i'm upgrading to 4gb).

The question is, should I go for the Corsair value series with the same specs instead?
Just had a look at the Kingston valueram site and it seems like the valueram doesn't have acer compatibility (...or at least so the say). They want me to buy the more expensive KAC-series which seem to be built for Acer laptops.

The Corsair value series on the other hand does not seem to lack Acer compatibility. It's about $15 more than the Kingston valueram, but if it makes a difference in performence or compatibility I could easily just go back to the store and swich the Kingston for the Corsair.

Any suggestions? ...maybe I'm just being paranoid :)

    Thanks for your help!

The Kingston memory will work in your laptop as long as you bought 2 x 2Gb of sodimm memory.
The Kingston will work regardless of what Acer states on their website. Most likely the Kingston and corsair cards use the same memory chips anyways.

Please understand that their are 5 main vendors of memory cells:
Qimonda, Samsung (SEC), Hynix, Micron an ElPida.
Corsair, Kingston and others do not actually make their memory cells, they make the PCB, and they use these memory vendors for the memory chips.

I don't understand what you are saying. Memory is memory right? If the memory you have in mind matches the type in your computer, it doesn't matter if the manufacturer of the memory forgets to list Acer. Why pay more for the same memory? I'd say keep the cheaper RAM.

If you go with Corsair, you are just paying extra for a brand name and nothing else.

I like Corsair. They have a lifetime warranty and good customer support so get them if they are the same price.

Doesn't they all have lifetime warranty?
I know for a fact that atleast kingston, ocz och crucial has that (and corsair).
Though i think it's lifetime warrant on all ram-modules as the chips are from the same manufacturer in the first place.
So i wouldn't mention lifetime warranty as a pro togheter with a memory module, as they all seem to have it.

Alot of memory does not have lifetime warranty.
Just recently PQI jumped on the boat and started offering it.
Still if you buy memory specifically designed for a system like server memory, compaq certified memory and such they do not carry a lifetime warranty.

Its always good to check before hand, cause you can get pushed over later if it doesnt.

How often do you buy server memory or compaq certified memory for your notebook? I can't even think that anyone would even wanna buy that because of the price? :)

Anyways, corsair, crucial, kingston and ocz is a common manufacturer to buy from to upgrade your notebooks memory. And they do got lifetime warranty.

Well you said any memory ;)
I have 16 1Gb PC3200 Crucial ECC chips in my Tyan Server, which do not have a lifetime warranty
I also bought 6 512mb Pc133 Compaq certified memory cards for a Proliant server I have, and again, none of them have a lifetime warranty. Oh yeah, I just purchased those 6 memory cards last week :D

No i didn't, i said "they all" and reffered they as common memory. If i meant server-memory or something superspecial i'd say that as that is clearly not the subject here!

And about you buying old memory isn't relevant either, we're talking about DDR2 memory in this thread anyways :)

But you youngsters usualy wanna sound smart :)
